MEI Fire Safety Inspections FAQ

MEI Fire Safety Inspections FAQ

Each year, MEI inspects condo units at Jay Peak Village to verify that fire alarm and life safety systems are functioning properly. This inspection is required to meet Vermont Fire Code and maintain our insurance coverage.

Who is being inspected?

Condo units only. Townhomes are not part of this inspection.

Is there another fire inspection?

Yes. Impact Fire inspects all fire extinguishers across the Village. Dates for this inspection have not yet been posted.

What is a condo?

Any unit that is stacked above or below another unit.

What is being inspected?

The building fire alarm and life safety systems inside these units.

What systems are in the condos?

  • Smoke, heat, and CO detectors
  • Alarm horns, strobes, and pull stations
  • Main panel and backup power (building system)

Why do condos have this system?

It is required under Vermont Fire & Building Safety Code (NFPA 1 and NFPA 72) and is also an insurance requirement. It ensures early detection and automatic emergency response.

Why does access matter?

The inspection is required to remain compliant with Vermont Fire Code and maintain insurance coverage. If one unit cannot be accessed, the entire building fails the inspection. This forces the inspector to schedule a return visit, delays compliance, and results in an additional fee charged to the unit owner who could not be accessed.

Who performs the inspection?

MEI Systems Integrators test, inspect, and verify the fire alarm system and monitoring.

What else should you know?

  • Report issues immediately.
  • Do not tamper with devices.
  • Provide access when scheduled.
  • Emergency access may be required if alarms are active.
